BOYS at Woodlands School have been learning a new skill with weekly trips to Scarborough Bowls Centre.
Pupils at the school, who have a range of special educational needs, have responded well to the calm atmosphere and challenging new skills that are required.
Grant Lenton, a teacher at Woodland's School said: "Bowls seems like the perfect contrast to the noisy and vigorous other activities which are organised for the boys.
"A lot of the sports we try require a great deal of force with little finesse. In the game of bowls, however, the emphasis is on control, which has been a revelation to some of the boys and they have certainly enjoyed every minute"
Denise Marshall, a staff member at Woodlands School added: "We have always received a warm welcome and the staff are excellent at explaining the complexities of the game of bowls. It has become the highlight of the week."
