Backing for skate park by Inspector

RYEDALE’S police commander has given his support to Malton and Norton Skatepark.

Inspector Andy Everitt told Malton Town Council last week: “It’s invaluable as a community facility for young people.”

His backing comes as the town councils of Malton and Norton look to submit a bid for money from Ryedale Council’s Community Investment Fund to allow them to manage the skatepark on Norton Road, Norton.

Now its future is dependent on Ryedale District Council supporting a £27,000 bid for funding.

Councillors in Malton and Norton are hoping the money will be spread over a two year period.

If successful, the first year will be for £11,000 plus £5,000 in capital and the second year for £11,000

The councils will also ask for Ryedale District Council to delay the termination of its management of the park until March 31 next year
