FOR the first time in the Malton Beer and Cider Festival’s four-year history, there will be an exclusive beer brewed by two of the region’s most distinguished chefs.

Festival Brew is being created at The Great Yorkshire Brewery, Cropton.

Andrew Pern, from The Star Inn, Harome and patron of the Malton Food Lovers Festival and Michelin-starred chef James Mackenzie, from The Pipe and Glass Inn, South Dalton, visited the Great Yorkshire Brewery and chose the malt which determines the colour and style of the beer.

They selected hops to determine the aroma and finally had an initial tasting. Then the chefs started the actual brew.

This special Festival Brew will be on sale during the festival weekend of May 19-20 and will be called Two Chefs.

“This will be a one-off beer and real experience for true beer fans” says Jo Taylor, director of the Great Yorkshire Brewery.

The Malton Beer, Wine and Cider Festival will have 40 ales from 10 Yorkshire Breweries on sale, overseen by the Great Yorkshire Brewery. The brewery, formerly known as Cropton Brewery, will be running the beer festival for the first time.

Their cask beers are still produced under the Cropton brand but a recent investment has now introduced craft keg beers.

Entry is free for the Beer, Wine and Cider Festival which will be held inside the Milton Rooms, in Malton’s Market Place, with the addition of outdoor seating. The Keg Bar will be on the East Side of the Market Place.

The Festival, which runs alongside the Malton Food Lovers Festival, will be from 10.30am until 11pm on Saturday, and on Sunday from 11 am until 4 pm.
