MEMBERS of the public are being invited to the fourth annual Malton and Norton Big Tidy Up.

Bags and litter pickers, courtesy of Ryedale District Council’s Streetscene department, will be handed out but organisers with Malton and Norton Tidy Group asks that anyone who comes down on the day brings their own gloves and appropriate clothing.

Last year saw cub scouts from Norton join forces with the tidy group to tackle the verges and footways of Scarborough Road and Norton Grove Industrial Estate.

This year’s tidy up will be held on Sunday, March 3, with anyone interested asked to meet at St Nicholas Street Car Park at 10.30am.

Antony Croser, a member of Malton and Norton Tidy Group, said: “We continue to meet monthly and are always pleased to see anyone come along and do a bit for their community.

“There is always work to be done.

“Many areas have been litter-picked more than once and many bags continue to be filled.

“York Road is particularly bad, the area was cleared in 2012 but at the Group’s February get together, six people gathered another 12 bags and only got half way down the road.”

It is also hoped that Norton Watch will join forces with the Tidy Group on April 7 to tackle the picnic area along the riverside.

Meet at St Nicholas Street Car Park at 10.30am.
