Anne McIntosh has met the Minister for Health in a bid to address the “chronic underfunding” faced by hospitals and the health service in North Yorkshire.

The MP for Thirsk, Malton and Filey spoke with Dr Dan Porter to request an urgent review of the funding formula last week.

“The funding allocation figure shows that – per head of population – North Yorkshire receives substantially less than other urban parts of Yorkshire and less even than neighbouring counties like Cumbria,” she said.

“This shortfall hampers efficient use of Community Hospitals such as Malton Hospital as well as the provision of health care through GPs and community nurses.” She now intends to raise the issue with Sir David Nicholson, Chief Executive of the new Commissioning Board.
