Dancers call for re-think

The organisers of a regular Come Dancing night are calling for a re-think on the decision to close Ryedale Indoor Bowls Club in Norton.

Barrie and Pat Elener, of Malton, want the Conservative members of Ryedale District Council, who used their majority to push through the sale, to “look at all the facts and not just what they might make by selling the building.”

They were speaking after the dance on Friday night – their last ever event before the centre closes on April 19.

Mr Elener said: “This is not an empty building to sell on and make a good profit. This is a living and breathing leisure and community centre used by many residents of Ryedale, many of which are senior
citizens, to whom indoor bowls, bridge, line dancing, ballroom dancing, family celebrations are all a vital source of both mental and physical activity.” The £350 raised at Valentine’s and March dance will be given to Marie Curie Cancer Care.
