Entertainments galore in Centre’s programme

Manasamitra - Journey to India

Manasamitra - Journey to India

HELMSLEY Arts Centre is gearing up for a busy schedule of events, starting with award-winning pianist Benjamin Grosvenor tomorrow night.

The Gramophone 2012 Young Artist of the Year,
now aged 19, entered the limelight aged 11 after winning the keyboard section of the BBC Young Musician of the Year and also became the youngest ever soloist to perform at the First Night of the Proms.

He takes to the stage at 7.30pm in a piano recital featuring works by Bach,
Chopin, Scriabin, Granados and Strauss.

This Saturday audiences can travel across the globe in Manasumitra’s Journey to India. The show, beginning at 7.30pm, celebrates the country’s dance, live music, poetry and culture, and will also be accompanied by Indian nibbles.

Popular touring company North Country Theatre will be telling strange tales of Shivering Sands – of keepers gone mad, mermaids and sea monsters, disappearances, hauntings and a plague of rats – in a comedy thriller on Sunday at 7.30pm.

The centre is also staging half-term events for families; on Wednesday, October 31 it will screen Paranorman at 2pm and will also host the Big Draw from 1-4pm. The free drawing workshop is open to ages 13 and above and encourages people to discover their artistic talents.

Street dancer Abigail Uttley is holding a two-day workshop this Monday and Tuesday, from 10am-3.30pm, aimed at youngsters aged eight-18 years who want to learn the moves of the dance form.

Tickets for the events are avilable from Helmsley Arts Centre on (01439) 771700.
