National theatre in live feed

The curtain raises on a live feed from London direct to Helmsley next week.

The small market town’s Arts Centre will be linking up with the capital’s The National Theatre to beam in a live performance of The Magistrate.

It can be seen at Helmsley Arts Centre on Thursday January 17 at 7pm

Written by Arthur Wing Pinero and directed by Timothy Sheader, the production also features Academy Award nominee and Tony Award-winner John Lithgow who takes the title role in the Victorian farce.

When amiable magistrate Posket (Lithgow) marries Agatha (Nancy Carroll) little does he realise she’s dropped five years from her age – and her son’s. When this looks set to be revealed, it sparks a series of hilarious indignities and outrageous mishaps.
