Supergroup gets ready for debut

RYEDALE Festival will unveil a new project at the York Barbican on Saturday at 7.30pm.

It has brought choral singers together from across North Yorkshire for a performance of Requiem – Verdi’s choral masterpiece – under the umbrella of the recently-formed Ryedale Festival Chorus.

The project is the culmination of two years of planning and gathers together small and large choral groups from across the area to the form the new super group.

Members include the Chanticleer Singers, Leeds Festival Chorus, the Ampleforth and Ryedale choir, Micklegate Singers and more.

The performance will be led by conductor Simon Wright, who has worked with global stars such as Placido Domingo and Bryn Terfel, and features a line-up of internationally renowned soloists including soprano Katherine Broderick and tenor Barry Banks.
