WORK has begun on a £600,000 scheme to upgrade fencing and lighting at the A64 Pickering interchange junction near Malton.
It will continue until the end of March and will also include the installation of new road signs and footpath improvements.

Temporary traffic lights and some lane closures will be needed on the entry and exit slip roads at the junction, but work has been scheduled to take place outside peak hours and overnight to minimise disruption for drivers.

Highways Agency project manager Steve Wright said: "This work is part of our on-going programme of maintenance and improvements for the A64.

"We know this is a busy junction and we will be working closely with our contractors to ensure any disruption is kept to a minimum but we would advise drivers to allow extra time for their journeys while this work is under way."
