A MAN with more than 30 years of experience showing chickens at Malton Show savoured his latest victory on Sunday.
Alan Agar, 64, of Egton, near Whitby, took the honours for the Best Soft Feather Bantam 2008 with his Light Sussex chicken.

The soon-to-be-retired plant operator said the key to his success is “early planning” with breeding starting the December show season.

“It’s a challenge to get your birds onto championship row,” said Alan, who has been breeding chickens since he was a boy. “You have got to have them right in every respect. It’s a nice hobby and not a dear hobby, one which working people can afford to pursue.”

He added: “I’ve come here for I can’t remember how long – since the show was in Malton itself. I think its improved since it came to Scampston – there’s more room and it’s a pleasant day out. I really quite enjoy it.”
