RYEDALE fell silent on Sunday as people across the district remembered those who gave their lives in conflicts past and present.
At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month there were Acts of Remembrance by young and old at war memorials and cenotaphs in towns and villages throughout the area.

Civic and community leaders joined members of Royal British Legion branche
s, scouts and cubs, guides and brownies, Air Training Corps and amy cadets and other organisations for commemorative parades followed by a two-minute silence and wreath-laying.

After the Act of Remembrance at the cenotaph on York Road in Malton attended by about 200 people the parade marched through the town to the United Services Club on Greengate. In Kirkbymoorside, the town’s brass band led the parade from the Royal British Legion Club to the war memorial in the churchyard at All Saints where wreaths were laid and prayers said.

The Remembrance Service in Pickering was held on Sunday afternoon at St Peter and St Paul’s Church followed by the traditional parade to the war memorial at the town’s memorial hall at Potter Hill for wreath-laying and prayers.

Townsfolk in Helmsley remembered those who died in two World Wars and more recent conflicts including the Falklands, Afghanistan and Iraq at a service in All Saints’ Church and there were similar services in Thornton-le-Dale, Norton and villages across the district.
