PICKERING Infants and Nursery School's bid for a Gold Arts Mark has brought an added bonus for some of the youngsters – violin lessons.
The school will be judged on its arts, drama, dance and music provision to achieve the qualification.
But headteacher Lynette Duggleby realised there was one weakness.
She said: “One of the things we didn’t have was individual music tuition so we discussed it with the County Music Service and they agreed to help out.”
The Home School Association bought some violins for the children to borrow.
Now 12 Year 2 children aged six and seven are having lessons in school.
Mrs Duggleby added: “The good thing is they don’t have to give up the violin when they leave here because they can continue the lessons at the junior school.”
