IT'S SHOW TIME! The curtain is about to rise on the 118th Malton Show – one of the region's premier agricultural events.
It's a great day out for all of the family with something for everyone to be found in the spectacular setting of Scampston Park, near Rillington.

The joy of Malton Show is its wide appeal.

Not only is it a chance for the farming community to get together and renew old friendships.

It also offers them a chance to take part in a serious contest of their husbandry skills.

But there are also so many varied attractions on the huge showground that you don't need to be a farming family to enjoy the event.

Scores of trophies and about £11,000 in prize money is up for grabs on the day funded by entry fees and generous sponsorship from local businesses.

Aside from the livestock classes, there are cash rewards in the horticulture section, fur and feather classes, competitions for children, cookery and handicrafts.

But Malton Show offers visitors much, much more.
Following a successful launch last year, there is another farmers' market.

A total of 10 stalls will be selling produce direct from the farm gate to the consumer.

This goes together with cooking and craft demonstrations, an open dog show, sheepdog trial, a Shire horse turnout parade, terrier racing, a colourful parade of the Middleton Hounds, more than 130 stalls and trade stands selling a huge range of goods and a mounted fancy dress contest for children to add up to a great show.

And for those with an interest in farming methods in days gone by, vintage tractor and stationary engine enthusiasts are mounting a display of some of their treasured vehicles and machinery.
This is always one of the most popular parts of the show.
A children's area has also been set aside on the showground offering rides and games.
Attractions in the main arena throughout the day include the private driving class, mounted and "on foot" falconry demonstrations, a vintage tractor parade and the always popular heavy horse turnouts and drays.
Last year the society scrapped a familar sight at the main ring – the tiered grandstand – and instead increased the size of the ringside members' enclosure.
This proved a great success and gave a more comfortable view of the proceedings for all those attending.
Scampston Park can be found on the A64 Malton to Scarborough road just four and a half miles from Malton.
The gates open next Thursday at 8.30am and admission is £6 for adults and £4 for children and senior citizens.
