TAKE the Lead, Take the Bag. That is the rallying cry of a new scheme which aims to cut down on dog mess throughout Ryedale.
In a bid to get people on board with their message, Ryedale District Council and the Safer Ryedale Partnership are offering subsidised dog bins and dispensers to all local councils to encourage the responsible ownership of our four-legged friends.

Phil Long, head of environment at Ryedale District Council, said: "Dog fouling complaints have been raised as one of the biggest environmental problems in the district and this project aims to enable a targeted approach to provide appropriate facilities for the disposal of dog waste, raise awareness and remove the problem."

Refuse lorries have also been enlisted to promote the campaign and now feature eye-catching advertisements on the side of each vehicle.

It is hoped the message will catch on among dog owners and the wider public and encourage them to clean up any mess and report anyone who flouts the law.
