A SECRET garden in Malton is proving a big hit with a group of tots.
Lying across the road from House Martins day nursery in Saville Street, the £8,000 garden has an outdoor chimney to keep the children warm and for toasting marshmallows, a couple of gazebos, sensory areas, a construction site, den, planting garden and much more.
And to make sure the children and staff cut a dash, they have been given some outdoor clothing and wellies to keep them warm and dry in winter.
Cash for the garden was donated by North Yorkshire County Council.
Helen Carr, a business partner at House Martins, said: “We are very grateful to the council and would like to thank them for their grants. It has taken us about a year to get here from first applying for the grant to going through planning and through the Fitzwilliam Estate, who own the land.”
Julia Lowry, the county council’s integrated service manager, said: “I think it’s wonderful.
“We have got 270 projects that we have funded and this is one of the most unusual and a wonderful resource for children in all types of weather.”
