THOUSANDS of people turned out in force as Dalby Forest came alive with the sound of music during the weekend.
They came to see teen hearthrobs Mcfly and Paul Weller – The Modfather – in the picturesque North York Moors National Park for its annual music fest.

Around 4,500 tickets were sold for Friday's Mcfly concert with a 5,000 capacity audience on hand to see Weller's performance the following night.

"We had really good totals," said concert organiser Paul Cody, of the Forestry Commission. "We could have had slightly better weather – it was a bit foggy on the Friday and slightly damp on the Saturday – but everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and no one seemed to worried about that little bit of fog or dampness."

"We get people who come regardless of who is playing because they like the idea of having a concert at Dalby Forest. We have a lot of repeat customers."

The concerts were part of the Music in the Forest tour which has been running at several sites since 2001 and previously featured artists such as The Beautiful South, Travis and Embrace.

Proceeds from the gigs are used to fund Forestry Commission projects to maintain and develop their sites.

Police and Forestry Commission officials said both concerts passed off without incident.
