RYEDALE taxpayers have been re-assured they will not have to fork out for the cost of sending officers to help with the manhunt for Raoul Moat who shot himself at Rothbury in Northumberland earlier this month.
Assistant Chief Constable Tim Madgwick confirmed to the Mercury that specialist officers and search teams from North Yorkshire Police had been sent to that area during the week-long search for the man alleged to have shot and wounded his former girlfriend, killed her new boyfriend and shot and blinded a police officer.

"We will be able to claim back the cost of that from Northumbria," said Mr Madgwick.

Earlier he had told a meeting in Helmsley the force would become involved in the 2012 Olympics.

"Although there may not be many events in Ryedale, the games will be a challenge for all the police and we will have to send staff to play a part in the bigger picture," he said.
