NEARLY four years hard work was celebrated when Heslerton Sports Club opened the doors to its new pavilion.
Stalwart groundsman Bas Dring, 83, who has worked and played at the club since 1948, cut the ribbon at a ceremony on Sunday.

He was cheered on by past and present members of the football, cricket and bowls clubs and by funders, other supporters and local dignitaries.

More than 150 people were then treated to a tour of the £300,000 pavilion, which has four changing rooms, a kitchen and lounge area, toilets for the disabled and a scoreboard.

John Crossland, chairman of the club, said: “I’m so proud to see it stood there. I’m pleased for the sports club and satisfied that the job’s gone well.

“I think Bas was absolutely delighted and everyone was delighted for him.

“He spent all day chatting with everybody. So many old players come along and it was nice for Bas to chat to them all.”
