FINE weather and supportive crowds made this year's Kirkbymoorside 10km run a sell-out success for the second year running.
A total of 500 runners took part, with 150 competitors in the children’s one mile race and 80 tiny tots in the Market Place dash. More than £3,500 has been raised in entry fees and sponsorship for Kirkbymoorside and Gilla-moor’s primary schools.

Jill Hardacre, headteacher of Kirkbymoorside Primary said: “It was just a wonderful atmosphere.”

The winner of the men’s race was Gary Dunn, of Thirsk and Sowerby Harriers, who finished in 32 minutes and 53 seconds, while Helen Cross, of Pocklington Runners, was the first lady past the post in 39 minutes and 40 seconds.

In the children’s one mile race Calum Harrison and Ilona Berriman came out tops in the Year 3 age group; Year 4 winners were Tyler Hutchinson and Emma Clapton; Jordan Thackeray and Hannah Cox finished first among Year 5 runners; and Joe Maw and Shannon Beal were the best of the bunch for Year 6 entries.

Winner of the children’s dash – for the second year running – was Daniel Ward, of Kirkbymoorside.
