THE Pride in Pickering campaign is taking a major step forward with a town-wide litter pick planned for next month.
As part of Hope 2008, Pickering's Churches Together have offered to tackle the worst areas which have been identified by the town council's Litter and Cleanliness Working Group.

These include the snicket between Eastgate and Hawthorn Lane and one
from Eastgate to Outgang Road.

Group leader Julie Hepworth said "grot spots" are being mapped throughout the town with the help of local residents and she was delighted that Churches Together will be out in force on Saturday August 9 to help with the litter pick.

Ryedale Council's commercial services department has agreed to provide litter pickers and refuse bags

Hope 2008 is an initiative of churches in Britain and Ireland which is helping to demonstrate Christian faith in action with various atcs of kindness in local communities.

Meanwhile the town council's Pride in Pickering litter group will be at the Campaign for the Preservation of Rural England's stand at Ryedale Show next Tuesday to support its Stop the Drop anti-litter drive.

The group has had 5,000 leaflets printed with that message and they will be distributed around Pickering.
