A new woodland playground has been given the thumbs-up by a group of primary schoolers.
The children, from Heworth Primary School, were visiting the arboretum next door to Castle Howard as part of a school visit, but then took time out to explore the playground.
It featured den building opportunities, balance beams, tree trunk bridges, log ladders and giant stepping stones - all created from the arboretum’s own trees.
John Grimshaw, director of the Yorkshire Arboretum, said “We’re delighted that the woodland playground is now also available for children to enjoy. The fact that the raw materials came from here, and much of the construction work was done by our volunteer teams, makes it even more special.”
The arboretum is open 10am to 4pm during the week and until 6pm at weekends.
