Petal power behind new business
Hopes are high for the success of a business venture which is still in its infancy.
Gemma Magson, of The Topiary Tree, and Rachel Sawyer, of Tots2Teens, both on Finkle Street, Malton, recently launched Flower Tots and are using their individual skills as a florist and children’s fashion retailer to create handmade baby clothes bouquets.
At first glance, the bouquets look like fresh baby flowers but on closer inspection turn out to be hand-rolled baby clothes including body suits, socks, bibs and hats.
They are further decorated by silk flowers and foliage – all of which is hand-tied into a colourful arrangement.
And even though it is still very early days for the business, both Gemma and Rachel are confident their idea will be a hit with people looking for gifts for baby showers and new mums.
“I am really happy with how they have turned out,” said Gemma, a florist who also has a shop in Helmsley.
“It’s something different. I think people can either leave them like they are because they look so good or take them apart and use the clothes for babies.
The bouquets range in prices with the cheapest items being a pair of Bud Socks right through to a large bouquet.
The range on offer is also expected to grow with a Nappy Cake and a Cupcake to be introduced soon.
Rachel added: “People are always coming in looking for new and different gifts and we thought this was something we could do.
“We are two independent local businesses who are trying anything we can in these tough economic times and listening to the customers and what they want.”
Flower Tots are available from both businesses and can be delivered locally or nationwide.
