Spotlight on railway’s plans for coming year

PEOPLE in Ryedale can find out more about plans from the Yorkshire Wolds Railway for the coming year.

A meeting will be held at The Old Lodge Hotel, Old Maltongate, Malton, tomorrow at 7.30pm.

It will feature a talk by Stan Johnson, a guard on the Malton and Driffield Railway in 1957, who will share memories and photographs from his time on the railway.

James Russell, the railway’s chairman, said: “2012 was a busy and exciting year for us, but 2013 is going to be even better. With our Visitor Centre coach having been delivered, we now have a physical presence on site which is already generating a great deal of interest. Now is the ideal time for members to have their say about our future plans, and for non-members to find out more and get involved in making those plans a reality.”

Planning permission for a Yorkshire Wolds Railway Visitor Centre, on a site two miles north of Wetwang, East Yorkshire, was granted in May last year.

The visitor centre is expected to open to the public during 2013.

Admission to tomorrow’s talk is £3, or £2 with concessions, or free for Yorkshire Wolds Railway members. Non-members who join on the night will have their admission refunded. Light refreshments will be available.
