Anne McIntosh was invited to do the honours at the official ground breaking ceremony for a new retirement complex in Pickering.
Work will now begin on McCarthy & Stone’s development of 41 independent retirement apartments - aimed at people over the age of 60 - at the former North Riding Garages on Eastgate.
“I am delighted to attend the groundbreaking of this exciting project,” said Ms McIntosh. “There is a growing need for such purpose built accommodation permitting independent living in secure housing. We are all living longer but want to maintain our life style.”
Karen Harrowell, sales manager for McCarthy & Stone North East added: “We feel extremely honoured to have been able to welcome Miss McIntosh to our Pickering site and were delighted by her positive response to our approach to delivering lifestyles tailored to meet the needs of the over 60s.”
The McCarthy & Stone’s Retirement Living development will feature private parking as well as landscaped gardens.
Facilities will include a lounge for socialising, a guest suite and a laundry. A dedicated house manager will ensure the smooth running of the development and there is also a security entrance system plus 24-hour emergency call points for homeowners. All properties will be low maintenance and energy efficient and shall be available to purchase off-plan in December 2014.
