A miniature railway will soon be transporting customers around Cedar Barn Farm Shop and Cafe in Pickering.
Owners Karl and Mandy Avison have been granted planning permission to lay 600 metres of track, create a duck pond and extend the car park at their site on Thornton Road.
“We have been running for seven years and I think we have proved this is a sustainable business,” Mr Avison told Ryedale District Council’s Planning Committee last week.
He said that the “Pick Your Own” side of the business where the public can pick their own fruit and vegetables had “decreased in popularity” over recent years and the railway would transport them to the outlying fields – hopefully giving it a shot in the arm.
Mr Avison also revealed that one full-time job position would be created and a part-time worker needed during the tourist season.
Cllr Tommy Woodward said: “It will be another attraction for the tourists that come to Pickering.”
