VILLAGERS in Marton, near Kirkbymoorside, have welcomed the news that three new signs will soon be greeting visitors.
They will replace deteriorated signs that often cause confusion to motorists and pedestrians.
Other improvements are set to include repairs to the church chapel clock, notice board, litter bin and dog waste bin.
Funding has come from the LEADER Small Scale Enhancements Scheme.
The project, spearheaded by the parish council, was motivated by villagers’ needs to replace Marton’s three entrance signs. But it soon progressed to include other areas located in a conservation area.
The total cost of the project is £3,717.
The SSE Scheme donated £2,467 with the balance of £1,250 to be raised within the village.
Marton Parish Meeting and Marton Mornings Jubilee Charity pledged £1,000.
Contributions from individual residents on an anonymous basis are being sought.
