Alan gears up for 120 mile bike ride
Alan Priestley, of Welham Road, Norton, will take on the 120 mile Coast to Coast bike ride over three days, starting on July 26.
A man who survived two heart attacks and had a triple heart bypass just last year is gearing up for a 120-mile charity cycle ride.
Alan Priestley, of Welham Road, Norton, will take on the Coast to Coast route over three days, starting on July 26.
Starting at Bowness-on-Solway and finishing at Tynemouth, he will be cycling along the boundary of the Old Roman Empire, starting and finishing at either end of Hadrian’s Wall.
Alan, 52, is funding the trip himself so 100 per cent of what he raises will go to his two charities – Children’s Heart Surgery Fund and Short Lives.
He said: “The children’s heart surgery fund is based at Leeds General Infirmary, which is where I was taken initially when I had my heart attack.
“I also wanted to support Short Lives because I thought that if I’d died that day, I’d have had a life at 52, but there are lots of people who don’t get that chance.
“I saw a TV advert about the charity and felt their work was very important.”
Alan, who was in recovery for 12 months, is now back at work as a business development manager for Jacksons bakery.
Alan said it’s the first time he’s done anything like this and it looking forward to the challenge.
He added: “I’m training now and people who have seen me riding up and down have given me encouragement. People are sponsoring me already and I’m trying to raise as much as I can.”

He said: “I really appreciate your support and thank you for any donations.”
