Ali scores volunteer victory
Ali Horton collects Volunteer of the Year award from sponsor Richard Charmon of W Clifford Watts Ltd, at the Pride of Malton and Norton Awards 2012
ANOTHER hotly contested award was Volunteer of the Year.
Winner Ali Horton, a district nurse and stalwart of Heslerton Football Club, was shortlisted alongside Sue Davies, of Hope Central; Sarah Tyson, the organiser of Ryedale Book Festival; and Wayne Reed, a key figure for Brooklyn Junior Football Club.
But it was Ali, of Rillington, who was crowned winner by Richard Charmon, of W Clifford Watts Ltd.
“I think volunteering is in your blood,” said the chairman of Heslerton Junior Football Club. “I think it is how you are brought up, to do something for no gain. Just a thank you, that’s all I want.”
“I’m just a driver, I need lots of people behind me. Heslerton Junior Football Club is more than just me. I facilitate what goes on there but I couldn’t do it without the parents, the kids and everyone else.”
