A family who are raising money for an appeal to build a maternity bereavement suite at Scarborough Hospital are calling on members of the public to join them on a walk from Helmsley to Hutton-le-Hole.

Annika and James Dowson, of Helmsley, have become key supporters of the Snowdrop Appeal after their daughter Gypsy was stillborn at Scarborough Hospital in October, 2008.

The walk is their latest fundraiser – which also includes a Calendar Girls-style calendar to be released in July – as they look to help the appeal reach its £120,000 target.

Setting off on Saturday June 14, walkers a will enjoy a leisurely stroll from Helmsley to The Crown pub at Hutton-le-Hole where a buffet of sandwiches and chips will lie in wait. The picturesque route will head toward Carlton, pass through Riccal Dale woods, and take in Nawton Tower, Fadmoor and Gillamoor. The Co-Op store in Helmsley, where Annika works, are also lending their support by providing snacks halfway through the walk.

“I wanted to do a walk again this year,” said Annika, who has previously taken part in the Tabular Hills Walk and the Lyke Wake Walk for the Snowdrop Appeal. “It’s another way of getting people involved with the appeal. It should be a fun day with a friendly atmosphere.”

The walk is £12 per person. Registration forms are available from the Co-Op in Helmsley.
