A Ryedale artist has been judged to have the best body of work in the Great North Art Show at Ripon Cathedral – earning her a £1,000 prize.
Kate Siddle – who has a studio at The Sawmills Studios in Helmsley – won the prestigious prize at the event which opened to the public on Saturday.
Kate, an abstract painter, said: “I am absolutely delighted to have been awarded the Carter Jonas Prize at the Great North Art Show. “The standard of artwork is very high so it came as a lovely surprise to find that I had been chosen. It means that I can continue to paint and further develop my work.”
Her work was selected as the winner by judges Simon Palmer, a former Royal Academy judge, and Jane Sellars, the curator of the Mercer ArtGallery in Harrogate and contributor to BBC Radio 4’s Front Row. The exhibition features more than 250 pieces by 36 professional artists, four photographers and one sculptor.
