Becoming fit is a sweet science

A POPULAR former professional boxer has teamed up with the owner of a Ryedale gym to offer new fitness classes for men and women of all ages and abilities.

Richie Scarth and Tony Greenwood, of Image Fitness, Malton, launched Fighting Fit this month and, even though it is still early days, are expecting the new club to be a big hit with locals.

There will be boxing sessions for 12 to 15 year-olds and adults as well as Boxercise classes for ladies.

Richie, whose previous club was based on Commercial Street, Norton, said: “It’s my aim to cater for all abilities and age groups. Boxing is a great way to get fit. All sportsmen, from Andy Murray to Wayne Rooney, use boxing because its a great cardio vascular exercise that uses all the muscles – it’s a very healthy activity.

He added: “It’s great to be working with someone as committed as Tony and to be in the real heart of the community.”

Sessions for 12 to 15-year-olds are held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 5pm to 6pm. Adult sessions are on Mondays, 6pm to 7pm; Wednesdays, 6pm to 8pm; and Fridays, 6pm to 7pm. Ladies Boxercise is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays with novices from 6pm to 7pm and advanced classes, 7pm to 8pm.
