Birth and Beyond antenatal classes

PARENTS-to-be in Ryedale can help to reduce worries about pregnancy, birth and caring for their baby with a new Birth and Beyond antenatal course at Malton Hospital.

Led by qualified teachers from the National Children’s Trust (NCT), the classes will help new parents prepare themselves for the arrival and first months with their new baby in a more compact format than a traditional antenatal course.

The course focuses on the needs of the baby, the journey into parenthood, as well as what becoming a mother and father could mean for your relationship over six two-hour sessions.

Mums and dads-to-be will be provided with information and emotional support on pregnancy, birth and caring for their baby, enabling them to come away clearer about what is right for them and their new family.

The course covers six essential core themes – development of our unborn baby; changes for me and us; our or my health and wellbeing; giving birth and meeting our baby; caring for my or our baby; and who is there for us – people and services

Karin Fothergill, Branch Co-ordinator NCT York Branch, said: “Becoming a parent is an exciting experience, but can also be very challenging. These classes will provide new parents with a support network in the run up to birth and give them the confidence to make the choices that are right for them.”

The first course runs from Monday April 22 to Monday May 20. To book a place contact Leigh Callaghan on 0844 2436850.
