Brewery launches beer in aid of Yorkshire regiment

"TO THE regiment" will be an apt toast on Wednesday when a new beer is launched which will raise funds for the Yorkshire Regiment's benevolent fund and help celebrate St George's Day.

Yorkshire Warrior has been brewed by brothers Phil and Paul Lee, owners of the New Inn and Cropton Brewery, who will be joined by eight members of the regiment as well as actor Neil Morrissey and TV chef Richard Fox who have pledged their support.

Paul Lee, himself a former serviceman, said the beer would also be on sale in other pubs in the area and all proceeds would be donated to the benevolent fund.

He said: "We just want to celebrate St George's Day, which was timed perfectly, and do something for the regiment. It is not just brewed for today and will be one of over 20 beers that we brew."

Mr Lee added that the celebration was a day out, with a coach trip around other pubs selling the beer, a pie and peas supper and musical entertainment, in order to raise further funds for the good cause.

Pubs participating in the St George's Day tour include The New Inn and Cropton Brewery; Buck Inn, Wrelton; The White Swan and The Kings Head, in Kirkbymoorside; The Royal Oak, Helmsley; and The Sun Inn, Horseshoe Inn, Letter Board and The Station Hotel, all in Pickering.
