PICK up your own unique technicolour dream coat from a newly launched business.

DiMirelle Funk is the brainchild of friends Michele Askew and Dita Mac An Ghoill and relies on their creative skills to transform old, unwanted jumpers and other clothes from charity shops into colourful recycled coats – each of which is distinctly different to any other.

“There’s an American woman and she does something similar and I just loved the idea,” said Michele, who is also deputy manager of Pickering Memorial Hall. “I was talking about it for four years and finally Dita said, ‘come on, let’s do it!’

“We love doing them and the response so far has been really good. The beauty of it is that no two coats are the same – each is one of a kind.

Both Michele and Dita come from artistic backgrounds which reflects in their designs which one impressed customer Christened the DiMirelle Dream Coats, a label they like.

And although it is still early days for the business, the partners now intend to launch a website as they continue to grow trade and pick up more customers through word of mouth, local craft fairs and on 07936 448055.
