Car crash claims two lives



Two people have died in a car crash at Catterick Garrison.

A black Seat Leon left the road and collided with a tree on Leyburn Road, near the entrance to Catterick Golf Club, on Saturday at 8.05pm.

The driver, a 23-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene and the passenger, a 20-year-old woman, was taken by ambulance to Darlington Memorial Hospital where she later died.

Both are serving army personnel and were based locally.

Police say the relatives of the man and woman have been informed.

The road remained closed until 1.50am on Sunday while the scene was investigated by the police and the vehicle recovered.
