A special guest helped to launch a new play area, visitor centre and Go Ape assault course for children – Treetop Junior – at Dalby Forest.
Popular CBeebies character Tree Fu Tom was guest of honour at the forest near Pickering earlier this month as it celebrated the opening of its latest attraction which is part of the Spring into Action campaign.
The campaign is designed to help children explore the outdoors and includes a new club, the Tree Fu Rangers, which encourages its members to explore the natural world of Treetopolis.
More than £1m has been invested into Dalby Forest’s recent redevelopment. The bespoke play area includes Grandfather Oak Adventure Tree, Douglas Fir’s Balancing Logs, Willow Salix’s Adventure Tunnels and Cedric Atlantis Pencil Maze.
The project was funded by contributions from the Forestry Commission and Yorventure Ltd’s Challenge Fund of £250,000.
The visitor centre has been redesigned with the restaurant now on the ground floor so that seating can also be located outside for visitors to enjoy the scenery and be close to the new play area.
Treetop Junior is a new experience of canopy exploring, trail blazing and obstacles aimed at children from around six years to 12 years. Children learn to negotiate crossings and finish on a zip wire. The children are in safety harnesses the whole time and are under supervision.
