Or one very talented Pirate "Parrot in Residence" - Charlie the Macaw - who has seen off stiff competition in a closely in a closely run contest against three other skilled, plumed pets at the LEGOLAND Windsor Resort Hotel. In a job interview like no other the birds were asked to give their best pirate performances to win a perch at the Hotel this Easter and Charlie clinched it by beak. A Ryedale parrot’s ability to roll over and play dead has seen it selected for a top job at one of the country’s major tourist attractions. Charlie, a 32-year-old blue and gold macaw, saw off competition from three other birds to land the role at Legoland in Windsor where he will play a starring role in the Castaway Camp, which is part of a new pirate adventure play area opening soon.

Charlie’s owner, Peter Bloom, 55, from Pickering, has had the bird since he bought her in Scotland where she was first hatched.

Mr Bloom said he believed the macaw was chosen for the role as she can roll over and act as if she is an ex-parrot.
