RYEDALE’S very own Calendar Girls have handed over a cheque for thousands of pounds to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance after sales of their 2013 calendar flew off the shelves.

The ten women posed nude for a series of themed and tasteful snaps for photographer Stuart Bogg, of Scagglethorpe, each of which were accompanied by a playful caption such as She’s Still Got a Bit of Go and Birdie on the Tenth which was, naturally, set on golf course.

The inspiration for the Ladies at Leisure came from the real-life Calendar Girls of the Women’s Institute in the Yorkshire Dales whose own calendar became an international phenomenon.

And such was the popularity of the calendar, the cause and the models themselves, that the Ladies at Leisure were able to hand over a whopping £3,300 to Bob Smailes and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance recently.

Anne Baron, one of the chief organisers, thanked the local shops and businesses that helped sell the calendar as well as the public who bought copies.

She added: “I would also like to thank the team for taking up the challenge of being in the calendar and being such good sports - a few glasses of wine always helps!”
