Chef’s Valentine’s gift to couple
James Martin speaks to the audience at the Valentine's Event at the Milton Rooms, Malton.
TELEVISION chef James Martin gave one couple a Valentine’s weekend to remember when he personally cooked them dinner at The Talbot Hotel in Malton.
Jim and Elaine Isherwood won the meal when their names were pulled out of the hat after a pair of demonstrations at the Milton Rooms by the presenter of BBC One’s Saturday Kitchen.
It was Mr Martin’s first live demonstration in Ryedale since he rose to fame as one of the most popular chefs on television.
Entertaining the audience with anecdotes and cooking techniques, he also spoke of riding his bicycle past the Talbot Hotel as a child and the pleasure of being back involved with the town and the hotel with which he now collaborates.
He also stayed behind to meet audience members and pose for photographs and sign copies of his latest book.
Two couples won prizes in the draw.
Along with Mr and Mrs Isherwood, a second pair of winners were given tickets to a special screening at The Palace Cinema in Malton.
Tom Naylor-Leyland, director of the Talbot Hotel, said, “This has been our first Valentine weekend event and the feedback has been very positive. The cooking demonstrations drew visitors from as far afield as Carlisle and Lincoln and everyone also enjoyed the opportunity to browse those shops and market stalls that had opened specially for the occasion.”
