Council sick days fall

THE average number of sick days taken by staff at Ryedale District Council has fallen over the past year, according to a new report.

Members of the council's Overview and Scrutiny Committee heard at their meeting on Thursday how there was a "significant decrease" in sick days to 8.89 in 2009/10 - down from 10.68 the previous year.

It is the council's lowest rate since 2005/06.

The authority is now ranked fifth among all seven district councils in North Yorkshire, another improvement from the previous year where it had finished seventh in the league table.

The best performing council was Selby with workers taking an average of 6.25 sick days while Craven was the worst at 12.61 sick days per employee.
