A staunch supporter of Scarborough Hospital’s Snowdrop Appeal is asking for people to help create a fundraising calendar.
Annika Dowson, of Helmsley, has been raising money for the hospital’s campaign for a maternity bereavement suite since it began last year.
Along with her husband James, Annika wanted to lend her support after their daughter Gypsy was stillborn at Scarborough Hospital in October, 2008.
The couple, who now have a three-year-old son called Nathaniel, have taken part in the Tabular Hills Walk and the Lyke Wake Walk, raising more than £4,000 in the process.
They have also organised a fair and raffle, which boosted the amount raised.
Annika is now working on a “Calendar Girls”-style calendar for 2015 to help the appeal reach its £120,000 target.
She explained: “I had the idea on Christmas Day when my dad opened a present from my mum and it was a charity calendar.
“I put the idea on Facebook, just as a joke at first, and it developed into more.”
Annika is planning on using pictures of mums and dads each month, with balloons to cover their modesty.
She said: “Balloons have become a symbol for when we remember our loved ones, with people often sending a balloon up in someone’s memory.
“We tend to have them at birthdays and Christmas time - they’ve become quite a symbol for us as a family.”
Annika has already had quite a few mums come forward to take part and is now looking for dads who would like to get involved.
She said: “Some of the parents will be those who have lost children and others are just people who support the Snowdrop Appeal.
“The hospital are in full support of the project and I’m really looking forward to seeing it come together.”
Annika has been in touch with a photographer who is interested in the project and now just needs more models and local businesses, or individuals, to come forward and sponsor a month.
The company’s logo would appear on that particular month in return for their support.
