Jason Gillespie, an Ashes winner with Australia, and former England international Ryan Sidebottom are among the cricketing legends who are lending their support to an appeal to rebuild a Ryedale cricket pavilion.

The pair are among an all-star cricketing cast from Yorkshire County Cricket Club who will descend on Malton & Norton Rugby Club for a fundraising dinner on Friday, February 21.

They decided to offer their services after learning about the plight of Malton & Old Malton Cricket Club which is in the middle of a major fundraising campaign to rebuild the pavilion which was destroyed by fire last year.

Mark Arthur, Yorkshire County Cricket Club’s chief executive, will attend the dinner alongside, it is hoped, team manager Gillespie, and cricketers Sidebottom, Steve Patterson, Oliver Richardson, Richard Pyrah, Martyn Moxon and Ian Dews and will hold a Q & A with guests.

Dave Callaghan, of BBC York and Leeds, has signed up to act as MC for the evening.

An auction, led by retired auctioneer and the club’s vice president Peter Woodall, has a number of items up for grabs including a water colour of the Old Malton pavilion by artist and former Malton cricketer, Alan Jones.
