Three Ryedale dentists fear they may have bitten off more than they can chew by taking on a punishing nine-day bike ride from John O’Groats to Land’s End.
Richard Marsden, Dr Sarah Glover and Lawrence Herbert will be among a 30-strong peloton who are setting off on the 874 mile ride this Saturday in support of Macmillan Cancer Support.
“This ride is definitely going to be tough – our dental practice has taken part in many activities to raise money for charities before, but this really does seem like the ultimate challenge,” said Richard, the principal dentist of The Red House Dental Practice in Malton.
Mr Marsden and practice manager Lawrence Herbert, of Birdgate Dental, Pickering, and principal dentist Dr Sarah Glover, have been training hard ahead of the marathon ride.
Lawrence said: “The hardest part of preparing for the ride has been the winter weather. Cycling on our lightweight bikes in 40mph gusts hasn’t been much fun – in fact, recently while tackling a big hill we nearly lost them in the wind!
“We all know that the challenge won’t be easy, but we’ve had such great support from our colleagues and patients that we know we’ll get through it somehow!” Sponsorship forms are available at the respective practices.
