Members of the public can find out more about fracking news in Yorkshire and around the UK this Friday.

Russell Scott, of Frack Free North Yorkshire, is hosting the free event at the Friends Meeting House, Greengate, Malton, at 6.30pm.

It will feature a film screening and a Question and Answer session with guest speakers.

There will also be leaflets and information packs available for anyone attending.

Meanwhile, Cllr Linda Cowling, the leader of Ryedale District Council, was a guest at a Yorkshire Post Big Debate Live event last week which discussed the fracking issue.

She was frank about the technical challenge that fracking would pose to local authorities.

“People like me and the planning committees who decide these will be very dependent on experts in
these fields,” she told the audience.

“This is too big, you can’t become an expert overnight.

“We are just ordinary people taken off the streets and people have voted for us and get rid of us just as quickly.

“When (the experts) tell me something I won’t just be accepting it I will be asking why?’”

The debate was held at the Cedar Grand Hotel in York.
