The parish church of All Saints, Brompton-by-Sawdon, was packed to capacity for Friday’s funeral of Belinda Evans, the great, great, great granddaughter of the aviation pioneer, Sir George Cayley.

Mrs Evans, of The Manor House, Brompton-by-Sawdon, was well-known throughout North Yorkshire as a charity worker, host, and especially as a personality and stalwart in the village.

A moving family tribute was given by Nicolas Evans, one of her two sons, while his brother, Alexander, read a lesson. There was also a humorous tribute from granddaughter Jemima McCrystal, and her brother, Kit, read a lesson.
