Flowers theft from cemetery

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a thief twice stole flowers from the same grave at the cemetery on Peaslands Road, Thornton-le-Dale.

PC Andy Marsden said the first theft, a bunch of roses, took place between January 13 and 15 and was followed with the theft of some large carnations sometime between January 18 and 20.

Footprints were left in the snow adding to the belief that the theft was deliberate, he added.

The woman who made the complaint and wishes to remain anonymous said that the theft had left her “very upset” as her husband, who passed away late last year, is buried in the grave.

“It is twice that it has happened and it is not very nice to find the flowers have gone from your husband’s grave and it has been trampled on,” she said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Marsden at North Yorkshire Police on 101.
