Flu jab reminder to high-risk patients
HEALTH bosses have issued a reminder that high-risk patients who have yet to have their free flu jab should do so as soon as possible.
Each year GP practices across North Yorkshire and York work hard to encourage people who are most at risk to have their flu jab.
People at most risk include over 65s and those with a chronic condition such as respiratory, kidney, liver, neurological or heart disease.
Symptoms of flu can include aching joints, head cold, loss of appetite and energy, which could cause a patient with a chronic condition like heart disease to seriously deteriorate.
NHS North Yorkshire and York’s flu co-ordinator Jill Wass said: “Children with long-term conditions are at particular risk from flu. If they haven’t already had a flu jab parents should contact their GP to have their child vaccinated.
“For healthy individuals flu is self-limiting and most will make a full recovery in two to seven days.
“However for those people with the conditions listed above, flu can cause serious illness and complications.”
