Friends and family turned out in force to pay tribute to the life of a popular parish priest who was laid to rest yesterday.
The funeral of Rev Paul Mothersdale, 62, was held at All Saints Church, Thornton-le-Dale.
He had died peacefully in Harrogate Hospice on January 18 following a battle with cancer.
Rev Mothersdale, a former policeman, was a curate in Kirkleatham before becoming the incumbent of St Agnes, Middlesbrough.
He was appointed the incumbent of All Saints, Thornton-le-Dale in 2005, and Rural Dean of Northern Ryedale in 2009. Rev Mothersdale threw himself into village life, appearing with the Thornton-le-Dale Players in a number of plays, and leading the annual Christmas lights switch-on.
He left the Diocese in 2011 to become priest-in-charge of Malew on the Isle of Man, where he was also Rural Dean of Castletown and Peel, and a canon of St German’s Cathedral.
