Further sighting of ‘big cat’

THERE has been another sighting of the mysterious “big cat” of Ryedale.

An unidentified creature was seen by newsagent Mike Williams while he drove west along the A64 to his shop, Castlegate News, Malton, on Wednesday at 4.30am.

Mike saw the animal walking across the carriageway at the bottom of the slip road that leads into Old Malton before disappearing into the undergrowth.

“I know my animals and, without a shadow of a doubt, it was not a feral cat and not a dog,” said Mike. “No way was it just a cat and it didn’t move like a dog but what I did find difficult was identifying the face – it’s difficult to explain.”

Now he is wondering whether anyone in Old Malton may have noticed anything unusual recently - such as missing livestock or unusual droppings.

Mike added: “Up until then I had always been a bit of a sceptic. I have travelled on that road for the last five and a half years and seen the odd barn owl but that is the only time I have seen anything like that.” The previous reported sighting was at Ampleforth Abbey in March.
